CROCHET KANGAROO HOODIE

INSTRUCTIONS
The instructions are written for smaller size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ). Numbers for each size are shown in the same color throughout the pattern. When only one number isgiven in black, it applies to all sizes.
Note: Ch 3 at beg of row counts as dc.

BACK
**Ch 38 (40-42).
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. *1 dc in next ch. 1 sc in next ch. Rep from * to end of chain. Turn. 37 (39-41) sts.

2nd row: Ch 3. *1 sc in next dc. 1 dc in next sc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first dc. *1 dc in next sc. 1 sc in next dc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn. Rep last 2 rows for pat until work from beg measures 7 (7½-8)” [18 (19-20.5) cm], ending on a WS row.
Shape armholes: Next row: (RS). Sl st across first 3 (3-4) sts. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as last sl st. Pat across next 32 (34-34) sts. Turn. Leave rem 2 (2-3) sts unworked.** Cont even in pat on 33 (35-35) sts for 13 (14-15) more rows. Fasten off.
FRONT
Work from ** to ** as given for Back. Cont even in pat on 33 (35-35) sts for 1 more row.
Shape neck: 1st row: (RS). Ch 1. Pat across 16 (17-17) sts (neck edge). Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.
2nd row: Ch 2 (does not count as st). Hdc2tog. Pat to end of row. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. Pat to last 2 sts. Hdc2tog. Turn. Rep 2nd and 3rd rows 2 (3-3)  times more, then rep 2nd row 1 (0-0) time. 9 sts rem. Cont even in pat until armhole measures same length as Back. Fasten off. With RS facing, skip center st. Join yarn with sl st to next st and pat
to end of row. Turn. 16 (17-17) sts.
1st row: (WS). Ch 1. Pat to last 2 sts. Hdc2tog. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 2 (does not count as st). Hdc2tog. Pat to end of row. Turn. Rep last 2 rows 2 (3-3) times more, then rep 2nd row 1 (0-0) time. 9 sts rem. Cont even in pat until armhole measures same length as Back. Fasten off.
SLEEVES
Ch 28 (30-30).
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. *1 dc in next ch. 1 sc in next ch. Rep from * to end of chain. Turn. 27 (29-29) sts.
2nd row: Ch 3. *1 sc in next dc. 1 dc in next sc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first dc. *1 dc in next sc. 1 sc in next dc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.
4th row: Ch 1. (1 sc. 1 dc) in first sc. *1 sc in next dc. 1 dc in next sc. Rep from * to last sc. (1 dc. 1 sc) in last sc. Turn.
5th to 10th rows: Rep 2nd and 3rd rows 3 times.
11th row: As 4th row.
12th to 15th rows: As 2nd and 3rd rows twice. Rep 2nd to 4th (4th-11th) rows. 33 (35-37) sts. Cont even in pat until Sleeve from beg measures 8 (9-10)” [20.5 (23- 25.5) cm]. Fasten off. Place markers on side edges ¾ (¾- 1)” [2 (2-2.5)” cm] down from final row.
POCKET
Ch 24 (26-28).
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. *1 dc in next ch. 1 sc in next ch. Rep from * to end of chain. Turn. 23 (25-27) sts.
2nd row: Ch 3. *1 sc in next dc. 1 dc in next sc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first dc. *1 dc in next sc. 1 sc in next dc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.
4th row: As 2nd row.
Shape sides: 1st row: Ch 2 (does not count as st). Hdc2tog. Pat to last 2 sts. Hdc2tog. Turn.
2nd and 3rd rows: Work even in pat. Turn. Rep last 3 rows twice more. 17 (19-21) sts. Cont even in pat until Pocket measures 5 (5-5½)” [12.5 (12.5- 14) cm]. Fasten off. Sew Pocket in position to center of Front as shown, leaving shaped sides open. Place lower edge of Pocket approx 2″ [5 cm] above lower edge of Front.
HOOD
Beg at top edge, ch 56 (60-60).
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. *1 dc in next ch. 1 sc in next ch. Rep from * to end of chain. Turn. 55 (59-59) sts.
2nd row: Ch 3. *1 sc in next dc. 1 dc in next sc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first dc. *1 dc in next sc. 1 sc in next dc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn. Rep last 2 rows for pat until work from beg measures 8 (8½–9)” [18 (19–23) cm], ending on a WS row.
Shape sides: Next row: (RS). Ch 1. Pat across 21 (23–23) sts.
Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.
Next row: Ch 2 (does not count as st). Hdc2tog. Pat to end of row. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1. Pat to last 2 sts. Hdc2tog. Turn. Fasten off. With RS facing, skip next 13 sts.
Join yarn with sl st to next st. Pat to end of row. Turn. 21 (23–23) sts.
Next row: Ch 1. Pat to last 2 sts. Hdc2tog. Turn.
Next row: Ch 2 (does not count as st). Hdc2tog. Pat to end of row. Turn. Fasten off. Fold Hood in half along foundation row and sew top seam.

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams.
Front neck edging: (RS). Join yarn with sl st at left shoulder seam. Ch 1. Work sc evenly down left front neck edge. Work sc3tog over V point. Work sc evenly up right front neck edge to right shoulder seam. Fasten off. Place markers on each side of front edging 2 (2–2½)” [5 (5–6.5 cm] from V point. Sew sides of Hood to neck edge between markers. Sew in Sleeves, placing rows above markers along unworked sts at armholes to form square armholes. Sew side and sleeve seams.

Tassel: Cut a piece of cardboard 4″ [10 cm] wide. Wind yarn around cardboard 40 times. Break yarn, leaving a long end and thread end through a needle. Slip needle through all loops and tie tightly. Remove cardboard and wind yarn tightly around loops ¾” [2 cm] below fold. Fasten securely. Cut through rem loops and trim ends evenly. Sew Tassel to point of Hood.
