Resort Wear Crochet Cardi

We love this cotton cardi to wear in warm weather or to layer for transitional seasons. Choose from a selection of solids and prints and crochet this quick cardi for your Caribbean cruise or walk around town.

What you will need:

Scrubby Smoothie™: 3 (4, 5, 6, 7) balls 9266 Royal
Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 6.5mm [US K-10½] Yarn needle, stitch marker
GAUGE: 5 pattern repeats = 4″ (10 cm) (one pattern repeat consists of one cross st and one chain); 5 rows = 4″ (10 cm) in cross st; 6 hdc = 2″ (10 cm); 4 rows = 2″ (5 cm) in half double crochet. CHECK
YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

1. Cardi is made from 2 Front Panels and 2 Back Panels. For best results, block each Panel to finished measurements shown on schematic before assembling.
2. Back Panel is longer than Front Panel.
Special Stitch
X-st (cross st) = Skip first dc of next X-st, dc in 2nd st of same X-st, working in front of dc just made, dc in first skipped dc.
Special Technique
Join with sc = Place a slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook.
CARDI
Left Front Panel (make 2)
Ch 26 (29, 32, 35, 38).
Row 1 (right side): Dc in 6th ch from hook, working in front of dc just made, dc in 5th ch from hook (first X-st made) (beginning 4 skipped ch count as first skipped ch, dc, ch 1), *ch 1, skip next 2 ch, dc in next ch, working in front of dc just made, dc in 2nd skipped ch (X-st made); repeat from * across to last 2 ch, ch 1, skip next ch, dc last ch, turn—7 (8, 9, 10, 11) X-sts, 2 dc, and 8 (9, 10, 11, 12) ch-1 spaces.
Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as first dc, ch 1 here and throughout), skip first dc, (ch 1, X-st) in each X-st across to beginning ch, ch 1, dc in 3rd ch of beginning ch, turn.
Rows 3–27 (27, 29, 29, 29): Repeat Row 2.
Row 28 (28, 30, 30, 30): Ch 1, hdc in first dc, hdc in each ch-1 space and dc of each X-st across, working last dc in 3rd ch of beginning ch, turn—24 (27, 30, 33, 36) hdc.
Rows 29–31 (29–31, 31–33, 31–33, 31– 34): Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Left Front Band
Row 1 (right side): With right side of first Panel facing and working in ends of rows, join yarn with slip st in first row at top left, ch 1, evenly space 58 (58, 62, 62, 64) hdc across, turn—58 (58, 62, 62, 64) hdc.
Rows 2–5 (2–5, 2–6, 2–6, 2–6): Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn. Fasten off.
Right Front Band
Row 1 (right side): With right side of other Panel facing and working in ends of rows, join yarn with slip st in first row at bottom right, ch 1, evenly space 58 (58, 62, 62, 64) hdc across, turn—58 (58, 62, 62, 64) hdc.
Rows 2–5 (2–5, 2–6, 2–6, 2–6): Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn. Fasten off.

Back Panel (make 2)
Ch 26 (29, 32, 35, 38).
Rows 1 and 2: Work same as Front Panel.
Rows 3–30 (3–30, 3–32, 3–32, 3–32): Repeat Row 2.
Rows 31–34 (31–34, 33–36, 33–36, 33– 37): Work same as Rows 28–31 (28–31, 30–33, 30–33, 30–34): of Front Panel. Fasten off.
Left Back Band
Row 1 (right side): With right side of first Panel facing and working in ends of rows, join yarn with slip st in first row at bottom right, ch 1, evenly space 64 (64, 68, 68, 70) hdc across, turn—64 (64, 68, 68, 70) hdc.
Rows 2–5 (2–5, 2–5, 2–5, 2–6): Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn. Fasten off.
Right Back Band
Row 1 (right side): With right side of other Panel facing and working in ends of rows, join yarn with slip st in first row at top left, ch 1, evenly space 64 (64, 68, 68, 70) hdc across, turn—64 (64, 68, 68, 70) hdc.
Rows 2–5 (2–5, 2–5, 2–5, 2–6): Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn. Fasten off.
ASSEMBLY
Back Seam
With right sides of long edges of Back Bands held together and working through both thicknesses, join with slip st in first hdc at lower edge, slip st in next 51 (51, 55, 55, 57) sts across; leave remaining sts unworked— 52 (52, 56, 56, 58) slip sts. Fasten off.
Shoulder and Side Seams
With right sides held together and Front Bands centered, pin Front Panels to corresponding Back Panels. With end tails, sew last rows of each pair of  Panels together. Pin Front Panels to Back Panels at side seam, placing stitch marker 6½, (7, 7½, 8, 8½)” (16.5 [18, 19, 20.5, 21.5] cm) below shoulder seam for bottom of armhole. Beginning 2 (2, 2, 2½, 3)” (5 [5, 5, 6.5, 7.5] cm) from bottom edge of Front
Panel, seam sides together, ending at marker.
FINISHING
Lower Edging: With right side of lower edge of Back facing and working in opposite side of foundation ch and in ends of rows, join yarn with sc in first ch, evenly space 59 sc across—60 sc. Fasten off. Repeat Edging across lower edges of each Front Panel, evenly spacing 29 sc
across—30 sc.
Armhole Edging: With RS of Armhole  facing, join yarn with sc at bottom edge, working in ends of rows, evenly space 49 sc around; join with slip st in first sc—50 sc. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
